Step 2 - Making your Scheme a Success

Step 2

Helpful Tips

1.   Get the people who manage your organisation on board

a.    A successful scheme has support from the top to the bottom within an organisation. Without support from the managers of an organisation the effectiveness of the scheme will be greatly reduced from the beginning.

b.    Gain their agreement on how the scheme will be run within your organisation and what can be done to promote the scheme.

c.    Agree how and for what the points will be redeemed.

d.    Ask a manager of the organisation to act as “Scheme Champion”.

e.    Read our Terms and Conditions.

2.   Someone has to be responsible

a.    Make someone responsible for managing the scheme within your organisation. Without this the scheme will drift and become ineffective. You need a scheme manager.

b.    Nominate a 2nd in command, someone to take over the scheme should your scheme manager not be available.

3.   Get everyone within the organisation involved

a.    Tell everyone about the scheme, if they don’t know they can’t contribute.

b.    Tell everyone what, how and where and if appropriate who.

c.    Use the letter, newsletter and poster downloads in the Schemes>Marketing Resources section of our website.

4.   Enlist the support of people outside your organisation

a.    Make a list of all the people and organisations that can contribute to your scheme. Think laterally.  Ask colleagues for their ideas.

b.    Ask your suppliers and customers. Who else does your organisation interact with?

c.    If you are an education organisation ask the families of your students to support by donating items and by parents’ organisations supporting, either through donating items or setting up their own schemes and donating their points to your scheme.

d.    Use the letter and newsletter downloads in the Schemes>Marketing Resources section of our website.

e.    Utilise the press releases and leaflets in the Schemes>Marketing Resources section of our website.

5.   The schemes are continuous so keep recycling

a.    From the outset you need to communicate that the scheme is not a one time event but an on-going process.

b.    Keep everyone updated on how the scheme is performing. How many points have you accumulated? Check our website and let everyone know.

c.    Are parts of your organisation performing better than others? Inform everyone what is working well so they can emulate.

d.    Celebrate the success. What have you redeemed? What benefits has this provided?

6.   Don’t fall at the last hurdle

a.    Ensure that the items being collected for recycling are the correct items.

b.    Once you have collected the items for recycling take the time to parcel them correctly. After all your great efforts don’t let inappropriate packaging let your scheme down.

c.    Read our Terms and Conditions.
